Building Foundations for the Future

Eco Committee Term 2

Our Eco-Committee has been very active this term. Working together and sharing our ideas, we have identified three areas to make our school more environmentally -friendly; litter, re-cycling and planting.

So far we have held a poster competition to design posters to persuade people not to litter and these are going to be made into signs, which All Round Signs have kindly agreed to do for us free of charge.  The winners, chosen by the Eco-Committee, were Milena and Meghan, both in Primary 2/3, Tiona in Primary 4 and Julia in Primary 5/6.

We have also written to J.M. Breckenridge, following a request from Nursery, to ask them to stop wrapping all deliveries in non-recyclable plastic. The Primary 7’s helped us to plant daffodil bulbs that were donated to our committee.

Finally, we have started to collect batteries for re-cycling and are awaiting the delivery a re-cycling box from an organisation that will collect our batteries for re-cycling for free.  We have has some response from parents and families to this and would encourage ALL families to bring used batteries to school so they can be re-cycled instead of going into landfill.

We are looking forward to 2019 and taking our ideas forward to make Lundavra Primary School as eco-friendly as possible.
