A summary of the fun we’ve been having at Nurture during Term 2!
Hello all! Welcome to the Lundavra Nurture learning blog 🥰
We have been running Nurture and Social Skills groups during Term 1 and 2 of 2021-2022. We thought we’d share with you some learning experiences and memories of our time spent with Mrs Lev and Miss Cohen so far. There’s never a dull moment!
P1 and P1/2 Nurture group
We are enjoying experiencing and learning about the autumnal season. 🍂🍁🍂🍁
We have read lots of lovely story books about autumn, including ‘No hugs for porcupine’, ‘Sweep’ and ‘Hog the hedge’. We created autumnal art using natural paints. We mixed turmeric, ginger, paprika, cumin etc with water to create scented paints. We tried to describe the smells when blindfolded, and P1/2 used lots of amazing adjectives like “smoky”, “spicy”, “sweet” and “hot like chilli”.
After reading about hedgehogs, we decided to make our own clay models. They turned out fabulous, and everybody enjoyed getting their hands messy and sculpting their round hedgehog bodies.
We are lucky we don’t have spiky bodies like hedgehogs – because we love cuddles too much! Ha!
Role play
We have a dressing-up area in the Nurture room, as well as a changing and topical Role Play area. So far, we have had an interactive Farm shop, a vet, a home corner, a spaceship and a hospital! The pupils really enjoy using their imagination to take on different roles and characters! They also really enjoyed making witches potions during Halloween!
Literacy and Numeracy
We enjoy learning about our initial sounds and having a go at Writing/improving our fine motor skills through play and sensory-based activities.
We are learning to count and recognise our numbers to 10, and sometimes 20! We have been practicing counting on and back, and also learning about shapes. We know how to recognise a pattern and colour arrays, as well as spot common 2D shapes. We used 2D shapes to make rockets when learning about Bonfire Night.
